Allie Caulfield is Holden Caulfield's brother. His death is used as a device for the key Caulfield family narrators, Holden and Vincent.

Allie is "two years younger" than Holden and died of Leukemia in Maine on July 18, 1946, according to Holden in Catcher. Holden spends time describing Allie's "left-handed fielder's mitt" which was covered with poems.

Kenneth Caulfield

Allie's place is taken in the Vincent Caulfield stories by an older brother named Kenneth who died in World War II. Kenneth is described in detail in two of the unpublished stories at the Firestone Library, The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls and especially The Last and Best of the Peter Pans. One interesting note is that Allie's famous poem-covered baseball mitt is transferred to Vincent in the unpublished Holden stories.
